Experimenting with Experimental Photography

Experimenting with Experimental Photography

What better to do on a rainy Florida Day than play with your camera? EXACTLY!!!

To emphasize the results of these techniques, the photos have not been edited in any way. What you see, is what the camera captured!

Here are a couple of experimental techniques that I tried out:

BUBLE WRAP INSERT

The idea was to put a small piece of bublewrap inside the camera to soften the image in an interesting way. I also used a long exposure (30 seconds) and moved the camera every 10 seconds to achieve a double exposure effect.

MULTIPLE ZOOM EXPOSURE

This technique involved adjusting the zoom in increments over a long exposure time. This ended up being my favorite technique for the day.

COLORED WATER LIGHTS

I wanted to play with color in a way similar to a color gel light. I've always liked the effect of a pool light at night, and wanted to investigate it further. I filled ziplock bags with water and food coloring, then placed a round led light behind it. By changing the angles, speed, and exposure times, I was able to achieve some interesting results.

LONG EXPOSURE NIGHT SKY

I needed a break from being inside... Even if the weather wasn't exactly right for it. There was a distant lighting storm going on that was flashing at a pretty frequent and quick pace. I used the manual shutter release to play with the exposure times... The results vary relative to exposure time and how much the sky was being lit up. I was also shooting without a tripod, so there's an interesting look to the motion that I think added to the effect.
